Founder
Constance Swaniker
Constance Swaniker is a Ghanaian sculptor. She founded Accents & Art in 2000, six months after graduating from KNUST College of Art in Kumasi with a degree in Sculpture.
She was educated in The Gambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and at Accra Academy, and served an apprenticeship as a carpenter at Art Deco Ltd while still a student. That mix of places and trades still shapes how the company designs and makes.
Under her leadership the company has grown to over a quarter of a million US dollars in annual sales, with a workforce of 30 professionals. Since 2009 it has offered industrial internships and apprenticeships to over 600 young people through partnerships with KNUST, Ashesi University, and Takoradi and Ho technical universities.
In March 2016 she launched the Design and Technology Institute (DTI) to close the gap between industry and academia. Its Precision Fabrication and Precision Quality curriculum was accredited by COTVET on 18 December 2018, making DTI the first privately accredited institution to offer welding and fabrication at level 3.
